The Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana, AMJG, has condemned the conduct of demonstrators during the recently held protest against what they called delays in the hearing of suits against the passage of the anti-LGBTQI at the Supreme Court.
Proponents of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill led by MP for Ningo-Prampram Samuel Nartey George organized a demonstration last Tuesday, October 8, 2024, to register their displeasure over what they describe as a deliberate attempt by the Judiciary to delay hearing suits challenging the legality of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill by Parliament.
President of the Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana Justice Henry Anthony Kwofie said the demonstrators defied explanations given by the Registrar of the Supreme Court on the situation of the pending suits and went ahead to protest.
The Association laments the use of offensive language on the Judiciary and the Chief Justice and demands by the demonstrators that the judgment on the LGBTQ cases pending at the Supreme Court should be given in their favour.
The Association said such conducts pose a threat to the judicial institution and all it stands for and must be condemned by all Ghanaians to protect judges and staff of the Judicial Service.
Justice Kwofie therefore urges all persons who have cases before the various Courts to restrain themselves and show decorum in order not to undermine the administration of justice.
