The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has begun its sensitization campaign to promote the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as a safer and cleaner alternative for domestic purposes rather than wood fuels in the Volta Region.

The exercise is being carried out at major markets and through community durbars and town hall meetings.

A team from the NPA has embarked on the campaign in the South and Central Tongu and Akatsi South Districts and the Ketu South, Kpando, Hohoe and Ho Municipalities.

The National LPG awareness and sensitization campaign by the NPA is in collaboration with the Oil Sustainability Program an initiative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Energy and Digicraft Advertising/Brand Management.

The NPA’s team has been educating the general public in the region on the harmful effects of wood fuels on the health of users and their families, such as cardiovascular and skin diseases and air pollution.

At one of the engagements at the Ho Central market, the team took time to sensitize the traders on the hazards associated with the use of wood fuel and the need to switch to the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), as a safer and cleaner energy for cooking.

Some of the traders commended the NPA for the initiative and pledged to use safer and cleaner alternatives for cooking.

The NPA’s Head of Consumer Service, Mrs Eunice Budu Nyarko said the exercise forms part of the NPA’s drive to ensure that many Ghanaians adapt to the use of cleaner energy to prevent diseases and air pollution.

She was optimistic that the traders will educate their households on the dangers posed by wood and other unclean fuels for cooking.
