The National Service Scheme (NSS) has officially transitioned into the National Service Authority following the passage of the National Service Authority Act (Act 1119) by Parliament.
Management of the scheme now authority has over the past few years put in place robust measures and systems to check compliance and fraudulent payments.
This new system (Deployment of NSS Metric Application), according to the Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, has saved the country from losing over Ghc251 Million.
Addressing members of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) at the authority’s headquarters in Accra, Mr Assibey Antwi explained that his outfit had moved from its former way of doing things manually to a digitised system where features like biometric facial recognition are used by personals for verification and authentication.
“This system, which we implemented some in 2022, has saved the authority and the nation over ghc251M. It also prevented 35,000 people from fraudulently accessing our database,” he reiterated.
Today, with the application of new technologies, personnel can check their postings online, averting the situation where potential service personnel have to travel long distances to check their postings,” he added.
The first Director-General under the new National Service Authority applauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo’s commitment to youth development.
Mr Assibey Antwi emphasised that the NSA will continue to be a key institution in preparing the youth for nation-building.
