The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng has called for the public’s commitment to protecting the country’s long-lasting peace before, during, and after the December polls.

In a speech read on behalf of the President of Ghana, at the 2024 peace campaign for the upcoming general election in Accra, Mr Asamoah Boateng said promoting peace is a shared responsibility, a goal that every country seeks.

He urged the clergy to avoid election verdict declarations as it tends to spark controversies.

“In a world that is increasingly fractured by division and conflict based on elections, our commitment to peace must stand as an unwavering beacon of hope for our nation’s future. We in Ghana have lived and witnessed eight relatively peaceful elections since the advent of the Fourth Republican Constitution.

“We must avoid the use of provocative and abusive language in our campaigning. We must respect the electorate and not assume that one political party has already won an election where a single ballot is yet to be cast. I call on all our revered members of the clergy also to put a check on those of your members who are going around and prophesizing winners of an election that is yet to be held,” He stressed.
