Real Madrid suffered two home defeats in a row, including their second Champions League group stage loss, as they fell to AC Milan at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Vinicius Junior scored a penalty to tie the game after Malick Thiaw’s opening goal for Milan, but goals from Alvaro Morata and Tijjani Reijnders gave Milan a well-deserved win. Madrid have now lost their last two games, having been defeated 4-0 at home by Barcelona over the weekend.

Carlo Ancelotti’s defending European champions have now lost two of their first four games in this Champions League season, after an earlier defeat to Lille.

Both teams have had mixed starts to the season—Milan had just one win in their first three Champions League games and are seventh in Serie A, eight points behind leaders Napoli.

Meanwhile, Madrid are nine points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona with a game in hand and are likely to face criticism for their performance, which was filled with missed opportunities.
