Arsenal‘s unbeaten Champions League streak was snapped by a highly debated penalty as Inter Milan triumphed at San Siro.

Just seconds before halftime, Inter was awarded a penalty when Mikel Merino was controversially called for a handball on a quick Mehdi Taremi flick, leaving him little chance to react. Despite Arsenal’s protests, the VAR confirmed the decision, and Hakan Calhanoglu coolly drilled the penalty straight down the middle, marking Arsenal’s first goal conceded in Europe this season.

The Gunners fought back fiercely in the second half, with Gabriel’s header cleared from the line by Dumfries and Yann Sommer making a brilliant save to deny Havertz’s curling strike. Havertz came close again, only to see his shot blocked by a diving Yann Bisseck.

In the end, Arsenal’s relentless efforts could not salvage their record, handing them their first European loss of the season and dropping them to 12th in the standings.
