In a recent Facebook post, NDC Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama reflects on his tour of 14 constituencies in the Central Region, expressing strong disapproval of what he describes as political neglect of these communities. Mahama says,

“I cannot help but join the chiefs and people in condemning the neglect of our communities for petty partisan political reasons, as President Akufo-Addo himself has acknowledged.”

Mr. Mahama’s statement highlights his dismay over the challenges these communities face due to the stalled development projects essential for their advancement.

“It pains me to see our cherished communities grappling with the neglect of crucial development projects vital for their growth and well-being,” he added.

During his visit to Ekumfi, Brakwa, and Ajumako Besease, chiefs and residents voiced their frustration with the lack of infrastructure, healthcare, education, and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods. Mr. Mahama noted that these grievances are shared by many households and young people who feel their needs are being ignored.

The NDC Presidential Candidate also questioned the motives behind this inaction, asking;

“How does a government ignore the needs of the people it governs, seemingly punishing communities for their democratic choices in voting for the NDC and electing its parliamentary candidates?”

He emphasised that this issue transcends politics, framing it as a matter of justice and accountability.

“Every citizen, regardless of their political allegiance, deserves to have their voices heard and their needs addressed,” he asserted.

Reflecting on his tenure as President, Mr John Mahama reiterated his commitment to inclusive development.

“As I have done before when I was president and will lead this country to achieve again, development shall be a right for all, not a privilege for a few,” he said.

Mr. John Mahama pledged that under an NDC administration, no community would be left behind, promising that he and his running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, would prioritise the progress and welfare of all communities.
