Election 2024: EC is all set for Special Voting on December 2

The Electoral Commission, EC has declared its readiness to conduct the upcoming special voting scheduled for Monday, 2nd December 2024.

In a meeting with the National Election Security Taskforce in Accra, the Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensah said the voter register has been prepared and distributed across the country.

She said the Commission is also near completion of distributing ballot papers for presidential and parliamentary elections.

The Security taskforce was led by the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akufo-Dapare. It combines the police, Immigration, the Army, Prisons, and the Fire service.

The meeting with EC, a major stakeholder in this year’s election was to ascertain the level of preparedness on behalf of the EC and assure the commission and the general public of their readiness to ensure a peaceful election.

The EC Chair, Jean Mensah said all the ballot papers with the exception of the Northern region, Bono region, and the Bono East have been distributed to the police armories across the country. She added that, with the protection of the security services, the EC feels safe and shall conduct a free, peaceful, and fair election come December 7.

The Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akufo-Dampare commended the EC for their relentless effort so far. He said Ghana’s peaceful atmosphere before the election is a testament that the country is turning the corner for a peaceful election.

The general public has been assured of a secured electoral process where every individual will exercise his or her franchise without fear or intimidation.
