The Eastern Regional Dagomba Chief, Alhaji Osumanu Adams has advised the youth most especially the Zongo youth not to allow themselves to be influenced by politicians to foment trouble before, during and after the December 7 elections.
He further advised the youth not to involve themselves in negative activities and electoral violence that will bring political instability during this period as Ghana prepares for the elections.
Alhaji Osumanu Adams gave the advice in an interview with the media during the celebration of the Damba Festival in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital. He reiterated that oftentimes, politicians lure these youth in perpetrating crimes during elections and then leave them to their fate when being arrested or found culpable and then left alone to suffer the consequences.
The Chairman of the Damba Festival Planning Committee in Koforidua, Ibrahim Abubakari appealed to all stakeholders to collaborate in sustaining the peace the country needs before, during and after this year’s general elections and urged parents to advise their wards to desist from any unnecessary activities that will bring chaos before, during and after the December 7 polls.
The Damba Festival is celebrated annually to mark the birth of Prophet Mohammed by the people from the Dagombas in the Northern Region and Wa among the Wala’s in the Upper West Region of Ghana which include the Dagombas, Gonjas, Mamprusis and Wala’s among others. It is marked amidst drumming, singing and appellation.
