The Presidential Candidate of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama says the next NDC government will increase the representation of traditional authorities within the country’s decentralized structures.
This is because their insights and contributions are invaluable in shaping policies that reflect the people’s needs and aspirations. Mr. Mahama said this when he met with the Ga Traditional Council at the Ga Mantse Palace in Accra.
Mr Mahama said during the discussions, he emphasized his commitment to partnering with Chiefs and other traditional authorities to promote Ghana’s rich heritage festivals.
These festivals, he said are more than just celebrations, but are opportunities to promote cultural tourism, boost local economies, and showcase the rich heritage to the world. He said by working closely with traditional leaders, the two can enhance the impact of festivals and benefit the communities.
Mr. Mahama said he has always believed that empowering traditional leaders to take active roles in governance can create a more inclusive and effective system honoring the country’s cultural roots. He therefore expressed his commitment to enhance relations with the chiefs as he moves forward.
Mr. Mahama said the traditional authorities are not only custodians of traditions but also key stakeholders in the national development agenda.
”I am excited about the possibilities ahead as we collaborate with all traditional authorities nationwide to uplift our communities”.
He expressed gratitude to the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru, Chiefs, Queen mothers, Wulomei and opinion leaders. Mr. Mahama said the display of alluring tradition and culture and the insightful discussion with the traditional rulers reaffirmed the vital role they play in society and the importance of fostering strong relationships with them.
