GroomDatGirl’s “Follow Who Know Road” program inspires young girls in sports

The Ho Tennis Court came alive with excitement as GroomDatGirl hosted the third edition of its flagship program, “Follow Who Know Road.” 

This dynamic initiative aims to empower young girls in sports, attracting over 60 participants interested in athletics, football, tennis, and basketball.

Students and athletes from Methodist JHS, Unity Star Ladies from Adidome, Dynamo Ladies from Ho, Nestino Ladies from Dzemeni, and the Ho Technical University basketball team attended the event. 

In her welcome address, Team Lead of GroomDatGirl, explained that the “Follow Who Know Road” program is designed to inspire and motivate young girls to pursue their careers with passion and confidence.

This year’s event collaborated with Node Women, a community focused on growth and self-development. 

Miss Perfect Amegboe, Event Manager at Node Women, stated, “At Node Women, we are proud to collaborate with GroomDatGirl to inspire and equip young ladies to become icons in society.” 

Celebrated female athletes from the region shared their experiences, encouraging the girls to take sports seriously and aim for success at the highest level. 

The Volta Regional Director of the National Sports Authority, Madam Joyce Datsa, delivered a powerful message on the importance of sports and education in shaping the lives of young girls. 

Mama Ngorgbe I, a renowned Ghana Football Association (GFA) Referee instructor, delivered a thought-provoking keynote address. 

She highlighted the significance of respect, discipline, and decency as essential qualities for achieving success in sports.

Miss Tilda Acorlor engaged in a captivating one-on-one conversation with Elizabeth Opoku, captain of Ghana’s National Female Hockey Team, the Black Sticks. 

She was the event’s heroine and sports personality; the one-on-one conversation provided valuable insights and motivation for the young girls and audience present. 

A panel discussion hosted by Miss Regina Amexo centered on the importance of sports and its benefits for girls. 

The panel featured Millicent Dorgbefu, who spoke on Female Physique and Nutrition, and Madam Vivian Dugblour underscored the transformative power of sports and education in empowering young girls. 

She encouraged young girls in sports to build a strong online presence, showcase their skills and achievements, engage their audience, and develop their personal brand with good characters and a positive lifestyle to connect with potential sponsors.


Mama Ngorgbe participated in the panel, discussing the critical role parents, teachers, and community leaders play in supporting girls in sports. 

The panel discussions provided priceless insights on promoting physical and mental well-being, building confidence, and fostering teamwork among girls in sports. 

The Ho Municipal Commander, Chief Superintendent Alale, conducted an informative session on self-defense techniques, leaving participants amazed and empowered.

The event concluded on a high note, with participants expressing their joy and gratitude for the inspiring experience.

The Deputy General Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana, (SWAG) Mr. Kenneth Odeng Adade, World Junior Referee for Arm Wrestling, Abigail Fremah, and Head of Operations Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Christian Kwaku Boakye-Aidoo, graced the event. 

GroomDatGirl is an empowerment movement aimed at guiding vulnerable and marginalised young girls to become better versions of themselves.
