The first lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has constructed a new basic school for residents of Wiaboman, a community in the Weija-Gbawe Constituency of the Greater Accra Region. The fully furnished public school, which was built by the Rebecca Foundation, follows a request by the chief of the community in 2020.

Before this school, pupils in the area had to travel as far as Mamprobi, Dansoman, Glefe, or Weija for schooling, a situation which sometimes led to accidents and exposed the children to risks. The First Lady, while on campaign in the Weija Gbawe and Ngleshie Amanfrom constituencies, inaugurated the school, indicating that her aim is to ensure that all children in Ghana have access to quality basic education.

She said the Rebecca Foundation was committed to the construction of schools and health facilities, among others, to improve the lives of the vulnerable in the society, particularly children and women.

Mrs Akufo-Addo expressed hope that the Wiaboman school will provide a solid foundation for the pupils in the community and propel them to a better future.

The first lady called on Ghanaians to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the upcoming elections, saying, “he is a problem solver and a visionary leader.”

On behalf of the chiefs and people of Wiaboman, Jaasetse (elder) of Wiaboman, Nii Oboja Nunoo thanked the First lady for the gesture and for heeding their request, saying, “we have cried a lot over the lack of a basic school in our community as our children have to go to as far as Mamprobi to access education.

“But today the First Lady has made it a dream come true for us.”

The NPP parliamentary candidate for Weija Gbawe, Ahmed Shaibu, for his part, thanked the first lady for the school, which he said has added on to the many developmental projects provided under NPP. These he mentioned include electricity, water, sea defense walls, and a health facility in the area.

He said the NPP government was focused on the development of the country and called on the people to vote massively for him and Dr Bawumia on December 7.
