As part of efforts to empower the youth and provide them with constructive pathways for growth, the Tanyigbe Traditional Area is focusing on the establishment of an ICT and Youth Development Resource Centre. According to the Paramount Chief of the area,
Togbe Kodi Adiko VI, the initiative aims to address pressing issues such as unemployment and social vices by promoting innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital literacy among the youth in the traditional area. Togbe Adiko announced this at a durbar to climax the 40th annual Norvisi Festival at Tanyigbe in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region.
The Norvisi Festival is a significant cultural event celebrated by 10 communities that constitute the Tanyigbe Traditional Area in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region. It is celebrated on a rotational basis and serves as a platform for addressing pressing community issues while promoting unity, development, and social cohesion.
The theme for the 40th Norvisi Festival, popularly referred to as the Nordu Festival, was “40 Years On: Fostering Youth Development Through Innovation and Technology.”
The Paramount Chief of the Tanyigbe Traditional Area, Togbe Kodi Adiko VI, paid a glowing tribute to the founding members of the Norvisi Development Union for their foresight. He emphasised that the Centre will serve all Norvisi communities. He disclosed plans to establish the ICT and Youth Development Resource Centre to provide mentorship, career guidance, and information on job opportunities while breaking gender stereotypes that limit access for both boys and girls.
“This resource centre is not just about technology; it’s about giving our youth the tools they need to shape their futures. By empowering them with skills and opportunities, we aim to redirect their energy toward productive endeavours and away from harmful habits like drug abuse,” Togbe Adiko stated.
The Centre is also expected to create networks for job placements and encourage entrepreneurial ventures while serving as a hub for innovation and self-sufficiency, equipping the youth with the skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
Togbe Adiko also called on all stakeholders to play their respective roles and responsibilities to ensure incident-free elections. “Any individual, group, or institution that undermines these elections should face the wrath of the law,” Togbe noted.
The President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, expressed concerns over the rising number of chieftaincy disputes in the region, calling for unity to ensure stability. “With the increase in chieftaincy disputes, it is eating into the resources of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs. It is eating into the fabric of our society as well,” he said.
“Is it impossible for us to settle these disputes among ourselves?” Togbe wondered.
The campaign manager for John Mahama, the NDC’s presidential candidate in the impending general elections, Mr. Joshua Alabi, urged all stakeholders to prioritise peace as the nation heads to the polls on December 7. “Peace is necessary for development, so this year, former President Mahama is appealing to all to factor peace in selecting our leaders,” he stated.
As Tanyigbe embraces this transformative vision of the announcement to establish an ICT and Youth Development Resource Centre sets a strong example for other communities in leveraging technology and innovation for sustainable development.
