The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah, has raised significant concerns regarding Otto Addo’s capability to lead the Black Stars towards qualification for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The doubts come on the heels of Ghana’s disappointing failure to secure a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a setback that has left many questioning the team’s direction under Addo’s management.
During an interview on Asempa FM, Nunoo Mensah did not hold back in expressing his scepticism about Addo’s coaching abilities.
He pointed to the Black Stars’ performance in recent AFCON matches, particularly criticising the team’s lacklustre display against Niger. His remarks highlight a growing unease among fans and officials alike regarding the tactical decisions and overall strategy employed by the coach during critical games.
“I have not been convinced about Otto Addo’s coaching prowess, especially against Niger,” Nunoo Mensah stated emphatically. His comments reflect a broader sentiment that the coaching staff must be held accountable for the team’s performance, especially in high-stakes matches that can define a nation’s footballing future. The pressure is mounting as the Black Stars aim to restore their reputation on the international stage.
The GOC President’s remarks come at a pivotal moment for Ghanaian football, as the nation looks to rebound from recent disappointments. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, the stakes have never been higher for the Black Stars, and the need for effective leadership and strategy is paramount. Fans and analysts are now left to ponder whether Addo can rise to the occasion or if a change in leadership is necessary to steer the team back on course.
