A tense situation unfolded at the Ledzokuku collation center in the Greater Accra Region on election day, as military officers reportedly fired gunshots during a confrontation with National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters.
Eyewitnesses say the clash began when about 15 military personnel arrived at the center, prompting NDC supporters to demand their departure. The supporters argued that the Ghana Police Service was already managing security at the location.
The disagreement escalated when the military officers attempted to drive into the main collation area but were blocked by police officers, who aimed to maintain order. Amid the standoff, gunshots were allegedly fired, causing panic among election officials, party agents, and observers.
While no injuries have been reported, the gunfire disrupted the collation process temporarily. Security forces, including police and military personnel, quickly restored calm and ensured the safety of everyone at the center.
Electoral Commission officials have assured the public that, despite the incident, the collation of results is continuing as planned.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the clash, but no official statements have been released yet. Observers and stakeholders are calling for better coordination between the Ghana Police Service and the military to prevent similar incidents in the future.
