A Sunyani based Medical Practitioner, Dr. Aaron Asare, has refuted claims that, consumption of red meat increases the risk of high cholesterol. He said red meat contributes only a small amount of the cholesterol in the body.
Since 1970s, most scientists and health practitioners have come up with various claims that, consumption of red meat which include beef, pork and mutton among others is a threat to health.
Most of them believe that, red meat is the major cause of bowel cancer, and excessive cholesterol in the body.
The situation has resulted in many avoiding or reducing the consumption of red meat.
Sunyani based Medical Practitioner, Dr. Aaron Asare, debunked these claims, saying, cholesterol itself is good for our health.
He however added that ruminants in our part of the world that feed on grass have the best meat and is recommended for all.
He also condemned the belief that, Red meat is only good for the young but hazardous to the health of the elderly.
Dr. Asare further advised all to inculcate the habit of eating naturals such as vegetables, fruits, unprocessed meat, local cocking oils such as palm oil and palm kernel oil, to ensure a balanced diet.
He also entreated all to undertake regular exercises.
