Outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured his full support for a smooth transfer of power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and President-elect John Dramani Mahama.

The assurance came during the inauguration of the 2024 National Transition Team on Wednesday, December 11, at the Jubilee House in Accra. The meeting marked the start of the formal process to transfer power from the outgoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to the incoming NDC government.

In his address, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of a seamless transition for the nation. He promised to provide all necessary support to ensure that President-elect Mahama’s government starts on a solid foundation.

“I assure him [John Dramani Mahama] of my full support and that of my government over the transitional process to make sure that his administration takes off in the best of conditions,” President Akufo-Addo stated.

He also stressed the need for both teams to collaborate effectively, highlighting that a successful handover is a duty owed to the people of Ghana.

President-elect Mahama, in his response, expressed gratitude for the outgoing administration’s commitment to a peaceful transition. He acknowledged the challenges facing the country, including economic difficulties and security concerns, and pledged to work closely with the outgoing administration to address these issues.

“Mr. President has given me a brief on the security situation, both internal and external, and also on issues having to do with the economy. The transitional teams will drill down further into these matters, and we are going to work together in the interest of Ghana to ensure a seamless transition,” Mahama said.

The event highlighted Ghana’s tradition of peaceful democratic transitions, a key factor in maintaining stability and fostering national unity.
