The Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Mr. Mussa Dankwah, has revealed that 20% of voters who supported President Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2020 elections switched their allegiance to former President John Mahama in the 2024 elections.
In an interview, Mr. Dankwah explained that his team conducted interviews immediately after voting to understand voter behavior. “We asked voters who they supported in the last election and found that many of those who backed Akufo-Addo in 2020 had now voted for Mahama,” he said.
This shift in voter preferences has sparked discussions among political analysts, who are keen to understand why voters changed their minds.
Mr. Dankwah highlighted that the Eastern Region, traditionally a stronghold for the NPP, surprised many. “The Eastern Region was a shocker. More people voted for Mahama than for Akufo-Addo,” he noted, emphasizing that the shift wasn’t due to low voter turnout but rather a change in voter priorities.
Economic issues, unemployment, and dissatisfaction with education policies were key factors behind the switch, according to Mr. Dankwah. He criticized the NPP for focusing heavily on education without providing convincing data, adding that voters were more concerned about jobs and the economy.
“Mahama capitalized on these concerns to win over dissatisfied voters,” he said.
Global Info Analytics, led by Mr. Dankwah, accurately predicted the outcome of the election, earning praise from political observers for their research and analysis.
