The Minority Leader in Parliament, Cassiel Ato Forson, has said the defeat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7 general elections is a strong message from Ghanaians against poor governance and economic mismanagement.
Speaking during a Parliamentary session on Monday, December 16, 2024, Mr. Forson described the election results as a wake-up call for politicians. He said the outcome showed that Ghanaians will not tolerate leaders who fail to deliver on their promises.
“The NPP has been punished for its poor governance, economic mismanagement, greed, arrogance, impunity, disrespect, lawlessness, and persecution of political opponents,” he stated.
Mr. Forson also accused the NPP of losing touch with ordinary Ghanaians. He highlighted alleged corruption, nepotism, and lack of accountability within the party, which he said made people lose confidence in the government.
He added, “The lesson here is that politicians should never take the people of Ghana for granted. When the time comes, Ghanaians will either reward or punish those in power.”
The NPP’s defeat, he said, was a result of growing dissatisfaction with their governance over the years. Mr. Forson urged leaders to take the message seriously and work to rebuild trust with the electorate.
