The Chief Executive Officer of Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr. John Tampuori, has outlined an ambitious vision for 2025 aimed at enhancing patient-centred care, professional development, and infrastructure expansion. Speaking at the hospital’s annual end-of-year Thanksgiving service and Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, Dr. Tampuori expressed gratitude to staff for their dedication and highlighted the hospital’s achievements in 2024.
Dr. Tampouri commended the collective resilience of staff in overcoming challenges. “The past year has not been without its challenges, but together, we have risen above them. Our collective resilience and teamwork have turned obstacles into opportunities,” he said. He praised the hospital’s progress in expanding services, citing the introduction of new specialties, including Oncology, Endoscopy, Neurology, Asthma Clinic, and Pain Management, among others.
He also acknowledged the hospital’s increasing patient satisfaction rates, attributing the success to the staff’s unwavering commitment. “Our staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that every patient receives the highest quality care with compassion, empathy, and kindness. This is what distinguishes us as a teaching hospital that delivers compassionate and people-centred care,” he noted.
Dr. Tampuori lauded the hospital’s education and infrastructure growth, emphasizing its role as a center of excellence for medical education and clinical practice. He highlighted mentorship programs for students, interns, and residents, which have strengthened the hospital’s reputation as a leader in healthcare education.
In terms of infrastructure, the CEO announced the commissioning of five new facilities: the Family Health Centre, a CT Scan unit, additional consulting rooms for Psychological Medicine, a Pharmacy Complex, and the Ho Teaching Hospital Annex. These advancements aim to improve workflow efficiency and patient care.
Looking ahead, Dr. Tampuori revealed plans to deepen the hospital’s focus on patient-centred care by investing in continuous professional development for staff and expanding critical units such as the Accident & Emergency and Dialysis departments. “We will invest in continuous professional development, empowering staff to grow their skills and remain at the forefront of medical innovation,” he stated.
The hospital also plans to enhance internal systems to improve operational efficiency and address resource constraints. Dr. Tampuori assured staff that management is committed to improving working conditions, securing resources, and advocating for government support and donor partnerships.
Acknowledging the challenges of resource constraints and high workloads, Dr. Tampuori reaffirmed his commitment to addressing these issues. “As leadership, we are committed to improving working conditions, securing more resources, and addressing the needs of every Directorate, Sub-BMC, department, or unit,” he emphasized.
He encouraged staff to embrace a mindset of continuous improvement. “Whether it’s a janitor ensuring the floors shine a little brighter, a nurse comforting a distressed patient, or a doctor pushing the boundaries of medical research, we all have a role to play in shaping the future of this hospital.”
The event, attended by staff, partners, and stakeholders, was a moment of reflection and celebration of the hospital’s achievements, setting the tone for a transformative year ahead while offering praises and Thanksgiving to God for 2024.
