Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Ibrahim Sannie Daara, has revealed that he was brought to tears after watching highlights of a Ghana Premier League match between Dreams FC and Accra Lions.

The game, which ended 1-0 in favor of Dreams FC, was officiated by referee Maxwell Hanson and has since become a topic of heated debate on social media. Accra Lions have accused the referee of making biased decisions that affected the outcome of the match.

In an emotional social media post, Sannie Daara wrote, “For the first time in 20 years, I shed tears at 1 am when I saw highlights of Dreams FC vs. Accra Lions. I have firsthand knowledge of the millions of dollars Lions have invested in Ghana football, and seeing this being undermined was too painful. I am a human being; I have a soul.”

Following the controversy, Accra Lions released a statement criticizing the GFA for poor league management and called for improved refereeing standards.

Dreams FC, however, defended their victory, describing Accra Lions’ criticisms as hypocritical. They argued that refereeing mistakes happen worldwide and urged Accra Lions to use the proper channels to address their concerns.

The win has lifted Dreams FC to 14th place on the league table, while Accra Lions remain in the relegation zone, sitting 17th with just 13 points from 16 games.

This incident has sparked renewed discussions about the quality of officiating in the Ghana Premier League and the need for stricter oversight to ensure fair play.
