A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and legal practitioner, Twum Barima, has asserted that His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama is ready to solve the power outages popularly known as “dumsor” in Ghana.
According to him, a power crisis is looming in the country; however, John Mahama’s return will end it. In his view, dumsor will be a thing of the past in Ghana, blaming the New Patriotic Party, led by former president Akufo-Addo, for what he says are power outages in the country.
“If I’m permitted, I will say they nearly collapsed the country, but God, being so good, has cleared them from power so that the right people can come in and fix things. God, being so good, we got the opportunity to serve on some of the transition subcommittees, but we saw things, and at the transition level, you cannot lie about where they bought old equipment and refurbished it to appear as new,” he stated.
During the panel discussion on the Angel Morning Show on Thursday, January 9, 2025, Twum Barima claimed that the West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAGPCo) requested to perform maintenance around October 2024 when former president Akufo-Addo was in power; however, he refused to grant their request and instead rescheduled it to January 2025.
According to him, since this maintenance could not take place, it would automatically indicate that dumsor may return to Ghana. According to him, the current President of Ghana, John Mahama, and his team are putting things in place to resolve this issue and hopefully eliminate dumsor in the country.
“The date for the maintenance is set for January 20, 2025, and it was stated during the transition that, when they rescheduled it to that time, they would use it to prepare well by purchasing more fuel and keeping it so that when the gas is not available, there will be other machines that can use either crude or gas.
The maintenance is expected to take about a month, and this is a good plan because Ghanaians will not suffer from dumsor. However, after our checks, we found that there is nothing in place to ensure this,” he added.
