President John Dramani Mahama has assured the people of Bawku that government will work tirelessly to ensure that peace is maintained in the area.

”We are going to work very hard to bring peace back to Bawku.”

He gave the assurance during his visit as part of efforts to restore peace and resolve conflict in the area on January 14, 2025.

In his address to the people, the President stated that restoring peace to Bawku is one of his government’s top priorities during the 2024 campaign before he was elected as president.

”During the campaign, bringing peace to Bawku was my number one priority,” President Mahama stated.

He stated that when he was president, Bawku and its surrounding environs were peaceful; the people went about their daily activities, but for the past three years the people of Bawku have been under stress and harassment due to the conflict.

”I remember when I was president there was peace in Bawku, and when it was going on, the people were going about their duties,” he recounted.

The conflict in Bawku, Ghana, is a long-running ethnic and political dispute between the Kusasi and Mamprusi ethnic groups, which has claimed many lives and destroyed several properties.
