A philanthropist, Apostle Dr. Joy Owusu, has donated items worth Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis (50,000.00) to about 200 widows, orphans, and some selected youth in Besease near Ejisu in the Ashanti region.

Items donated include pieces of cloth and bags of rice, among others.

The gesture brought deep relief to most of the widows, who not only expressed excitement about the kind gesture by Apostle Dr. Owusu but also thanked her for remembering them in such hard times.

Some orphans and selected youth of the town also received bags of rice and shirts as a sign of empathy and consolation, especially as others enjoy stable relationships in celebrating the New Year festivities.

Each widow received six (6) pieces of cloth in addition to other items. They were also screened for hypertension and blood sugar by a team of medical professionals from Accra.

They were as well-feted and entertained with inspirational gospel songs to which they showed their appreciation through dancing.

Apostle Dr. Joy Owusu donated the items through her charity organisation known as the ‘Life Joy4Joy Foundation’ based in Accra.

Some of the beneficiary widows shared with “Ghana Today”, a current affairs program on GBC’s Radio Ghana, their appreciation for the benevolence.

“This benevolence is even beyond my imagination. May God bless her abundantly,” Obapanin Ama Wusuaa remarked.

Another beneficiary, Maame Margaret Birago, said, “I’ve been a widow for 13 years now. I don’t receive anything during the yuletide, but God has always catered for my needs. All I’m asking for is God’s blessings for her. May she enjoy a long, healthy life.”

The Kontihemaa of Besease, Nana Yaa Aninwaa Bodom, described the charity by the ‘Life Joy4Joy Foundation’ as timely for most of the beneficiaries considering the difficulty some of them are going through.

“Life Joy4Joy Foundation’ has done very well. They’ve brought laughter to the widows. I’ve observed their excitement. Some of them are living in real hardship and misery. It’s not been easy for their upkeep and those of their children. But this donation has inspired them.”

The founder of the ‘Life Joy4Joy Foundation’, Apostle Dr. Joy Owusu, said widows in particular are special needy people for God, for which supporting them is part of fulfilling her religious mandate.

She said, “My mother is a widow, and I know what she goes through, even as I do my best for her. I feel for her sometimes. It’s not been easy for her without any backup or someone to talk to. I’ve realised also that, when they become old, some are rejected. They go through a lot that some even wish for death. But, widows are the eyes of God, and so it is godly to provide for them.”

The Besease donation is the third of its kind by the Foundation in the past three months.

According to the founder of the ‘Life Joy4Joy Foundation, she and her team will very soon visit the Nsawam Medium Prisons in the Eastern region for a similar gesture.
