The Office of the President of Ghana has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to recall all Diplomatic and Service Passports issued under the previous administration.

In a statement signed by the President’s Secretary, Dr. Callistus Mahama, the directive was described as part of efforts to ensure the proper use and management of official travel documents in compliance with national and international standards.

The statement issued on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, emphasised the importance of this exercise in maintaining the credibility and efficiency of Ghana’s passport system.

Government explained that the exercise aims to prevent misuse, protect the country’s reputation, and maintain the integrity of diplomatic engagements.

The Presidency further instructed the Foreign Affairs Ministry to issue a public notice informing holders of diplomatic and service passports to return them for verification and, where applicable, re-issuance.

The Ministry has also been tasked with setting a compliance deadline that must specify a timeline requiring all passport holders to comply by 24 January 2025.

Additionally, the Ministry has been urged to review the returned passports to ensure they meet current eligibility criteria.

Passport holders requiring further clarification have been encouraged to contact the Office of the President.
