In an interview on GTV’s Breakfast Show with Thelma Tackie on January 15, 2025, Divisional Officer II Desmond Akah, who handles public relations for the Ghana National Fire Service, assured Ghanaians that they are committed to saving lives, just like Jesus Christ. He emphasized on their dedication to dealing with the ongoing fire outbreaks in the country.

Akah explained that the harmattan season is a major reason for the increase in fires during this time of year. He pointed out several causes of these fires, such as electrical problems, old wiring, overloaded sockets, careless use of open flames and gas leaks. He urged people to be extra careful when using fire, especially now and in the future.

When discussing concerns about how quickly the fire service responds to emergencies, Akah asked the public not to spread false rumors about them. “I beg those people out there that, in as much as they want to ridicule us and put us in a bad light that we don’t respond to quickly or that we arrive without water—these claims and assertions that do not hold water” he said.

Akah admitted that the Ghana National Fire Service has some challenges, like not having enough fire stations across the country, which can slow down their response times. He encouraged Ghanaians to support the fire service and mentioned the need for better equipment to fight fires effectively.

In his closing remarks, Akah reaffirmed the commitment of the Ghana National Fire Service to protect people and their property from fire dangers. “Please stop attacking your brave men, we are not just your friends or heros; just like Jesus Christ, we are your saviors and we will continue to remain committed to ensure that we keep you and your families as, well as your properties from the ravages of fire, so keep supporting us” he urged.

The Ghana National Fire Service is dedicated to keeping lives and property safe as they face the challenges of fire outbreaks in the country.
