Former Black Stars goalkeeper Daniel Agyei has expressed deep concern about the state of the Ghana Premier League, calling it “sinking” and less appealing to fans and players.
Speaking on GHOne TV’s The Game, Agyei pointed out poor salaries as a major reason for the league’s struggles. He explained that low player pay makes it hard for the league to attract and keep talented players.
“The Ghana Premier League is sinking and is not attractive. The current salaries of players in the league are not good,” said Agyei, who previously played for Liberty Professionals.
Despite his criticism, the goalkeeper, known for his role in Ghana’s 2009 Under-20 World Cup victory, remains hopeful. He believes that with strong leadership and better investment, the league can return to its former glory.
Agyei’s comments are a call to action for the Ghana Football Association and other stakeholders to tackle the challenges facing the league and revive its fortunes.
