President John Dramani Mahama, has arrived in Kumasi to join Asantehene OTUMFUO Osei Tutu and Asanteman to celebrate the Akwasidae festival at Manhyia today. He was accompanied by the National Chairman of NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and other officials. Before joining Asanteman at Manhyia, President Mahama will attend a church service to thank God for his decisive electoral victory and successful swearing in ceremony on January 7.
President Mahama is expected to discuss with Otumfuo, efforts to bring lasting peace to Bawku and its environs. Last week, President Mahama held discussions with the Overlords of Bawku and Mamprugu as part of his mediation effort to return peace to Bawku. At the palace of Nayiri in Nalerigu, the President informed the Nayiri of the mediation effort begun by the Otumfuo and he would visit him and further hold discussion with him on the way forward.
The Asantehene and Nayiri were members of the eminent chiefs who brought peace to Dagbon after decades of fatal chieftaincy disputes.
