AngloGold Ashanti Schools Announce Temporary Closure Amid Security Concerns in Obuasi
The AngloGold Ashanti Schools have announced a temporary closure following violent clashes between illegal miners and the military in the area, which have left several people feared dead and others injured.
The escalating tension in Obuasi has also led to the burning of vehicles and the destruction of private property, creating a heightened sense of insecurity in the town. In response, the management of AngloGold Ashanti Schools has decided to close their institutions on Monday, January 20, 2025, and Tuesday, January 21, 2025, to ensure the safety of students, staff, and other stakeholders.
In a statement, the school management said, “This decision has been taken to safeguard lives and property and to promote the safety and welfare of our community during this challenging time. We are hopeful that calm will return to the town, allowing us to reopen on Wednesday, January 23, 2025.”
