President John Dramani Mahama will serve as the special guest of honour at the 49th Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards, set to take place on January 24, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The event celebrates the achievements of Ghanaian athletes and teams, underscoring the nation’s commitment to sports development.

President Mahama’s confirmed attendance highlights his ongoing support for sports in Ghana. Despite his busy schedule, his participation in the ceremony is expected to resonate with attendees, reinforcing sports as a key aspect of national pride and identity.

At the ceremony, President Mahama will deliver a keynote address titled “Gold and Glory: A Call for Change in National Orientation and Investment in Sports.”

In his speech, President Mahama will outline his vision for the future of Ghanaian sports, stressing the need for greater investment and a shift in national priorities to cultivate sports excellence. The address is expected to inspire both current and future athletes.

The SWAG Awards, the longest-running awards programme in Ghana since 1975, will honour over 50 athletes and officials who have made outstanding contributions to sports. The presence of prominent guests, including Mahama, will elevate the prestige of the event.
