The Inspector General of Police, (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, has assured the people of Yendi of adequate security for the continuation of the final funeral rites of Yaa Na Yakubu Andani.
The funeral which began last Friday, was suspended after violent clashes which injured about 22 people.
The IGP who visited some chiefs in the area including the Boling La Na to ascertain the state of security in the Municipality following the clashes was accompanied by some top security personnel.
Security agencies in the Northern Region have outlined new security measures in the Yendi area as the funeral for the late Yaa-Na Yakubu Andani continues today, Sunday 13, 2019.
The new measures were taken after security chiefs including high ranking national military and police officers held a meeting to discuss security issues in Yendi.
The Northern Regional Police PRO, DSP Yusif Tanko, who addressed the media following a meeting with the elders of the Andani family gave assurance of maximum security and an incident-free period during the funeral.
He said as part of new security measures, vehicles entering and heading to Yendi will be searched by Police officers.
He said suspicious persons within the town will also be subjected to a security search to ensure that weapons are not brought into the town.
