Minister of Roads and Highways Designate, Kwame Agbobza, has emphasized the need for fair opportunities for all, regardless of gender, in the roads and engineering sectors.

Speaking during his ministerial vetting on Monday, January 20, 2025, Agbobza acknowledged the disproportionate representation of women in these fields.

“I know few female road contractors, the same applies to engineering,” he said, highlighting the need for conscious efforts to address this imbalance. Agbobza, who was a champion for the passage of the Affirmative Action Act, stressed the importance of creating an enabling environment for women to participate fully in various activities.

As a father, Agbobza expressed his desire for his daughter to have unlimited opportunities, unhindered by her gender. “I want my daughter to grow up to be whatever God wants her to be. And there shouldn’t be any barrier based on her gender,” he said.

The Affirmative Action Act, passed in July 2024, aims to increase women’s participation in political, economic, and societal spheres to at least 30% by 2026 and 50% by 2030.

Agbobza’s commitment to promoting gender equality and fair opportunities aligns with the government’s vision to prioritize infrastructure development and economic growth. As the Minister of Roads and Highways Designate, Agbobza is poised to play a crucial role in shaping the country’s infrastructure and creating opportunities for all Ghanaians.
