Deputy Director of Legal for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Loh, asserted that anyone opposing the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team established by President Mahama is likely “a thief, criminal or someone who has misappropriated state funds.”
During a discussion with Kafui Dey on GTV breakfast show, he emphasized that the ORAL team was part of President Mahama’s transition program, which he views as an ongoing process rather than a singular event. The team’s primary function, Loh explained, is to collect information and forward it to the relevant authorities.
The establishment of the ORAL team by President Mahama marks a significant step towards combating corruption in Ghana by focusing on high-profile scandals and making recommendations, the team was formed to ensure accountability and transparency.
Defending the team’s purpose as against Saaka Salia, an NPP communications team member who expressed skepticism about the team’s purpose mentioning that he cannot back a useless entity called ORAL,George Loh stated that ORAL is not an investigative body, but rather a mechanism to verify the authenticity of over 700 petitions submitted by the public.
Loh’s statement suggests that the ORAL team is focused on accountability and transparency. He assured that individuals with a clear conscience have no reason to fear the ORAL team. This response came on the back of Saaka Salia mentioning that the ORAL would only appear serious and responsible if they were quiet.
