Students of AngloGold Ashanti Schools can breathe a sigh of relief following the school’s management’s announcement that classes will resume on January 27, 2025, despite ongoing tensions in the mining community.
The school’s management issued a statement on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, confirming the new reopening date after initially planning to reopen on January 22. The decision to postpone was made to ensure calm and safety for students and staff.
“Management is continuing broader consultations with relevant authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone upon reopening,” the statement read.
The decision was made after careful consideration of the town’s situation, prioritizing the safety of students, staff, and stakeholders.
Both AngloGold Ashanti Schools and the Williams and Brew School are now expected to resume activities on Monday, January 27, 2025.
AGA Schools’ management also announced measures to adjust the academic calendar to compensate for the lost contact hours.
“To make up for the lost contact hours, particularly for our candidates preparing for the Cambridge IGCSE, Checkpoint Examinations, and the 2025 BECE, we will adjust the academic calendar,” the statement added.
