The Minister-designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Dzifa Abla Gomashie, has shared her plans to address the challenges facing Mole National Park and other key historical sites in Ghana.
Speaking during her vetting on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, the Ketu South Member of Parliament emphasised the untapped potential of Mole National Park, comparing it to world-renowned wildlife parks in Kenya and Uganda.
“Mole is the only place in Ghana where you find animals similar to those in East Africa, yet it has been neglected in terms of development and investment. Few people even know about the beautiful Paris Waterfalls within the park,” she stated.
Abla Gomashie also highlighted the importance of the Salaga Slave Market, located a few kilometres from the park. She described it as a significant historical site that deserves greater attention and investment.
To tackle these challenges, she plans to collaborate with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to encourage local investment in tourism. “Tourism development should begin at the local level. The ministry has agencies that can assist assemblies to harness their tourism potential,” she said.
The nominee noted that Mole National Park has been a popular tourist destination for years but requires substantial investment to maximise its potential. She pledged to push for increased resources and work with local government representatives to promote and develop tourism in the region.
Abla Gomashie’s vision is to make Mole National Park and other sites significant contributors to Ghana’s tourism sector, creating jobs and driving economic growth.
