John Ansah has been elected as the new Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) following a decisive election held on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the GHALCA Secretariat at the Accra Sports Stadium. Ansah’s victory was marked by an overwhelming 95 votes, far surpassing his opponent, Isaac Wilberforce Koomson, who managed to secure only 35 votes.

Ansah takes over the reins from Kudjoe Fianoo, who stepped down after a lengthy and impactful tenure. The new leadership is expected to bring fresh ideas and a revitalized approach to GHALCA’s operations, with a strong emphasis on enhancing the association’s influence in the football community. The election results reflect a clear mandate for Ansah to implement his vision and strategies aimed at fostering growth and unity among the clubs.

In a notable development, Phyllis Marku successfully retained her position as Vice Chair, defeating Nana Amankwaa Kwakye. Marku’s continued leadership alongside Ansah is anticipated to bolster the association’s efforts in promoting gender inclusivity and empowering women in sports. The collaborative dynamic between the two leaders could be pivotal in driving GHALCA’s initiatives forward.

With three terms of experience as an executive member of GHALCA, Ansah is poised to guide the association toward a more prosperous future. He has articulated a vision centered on ethical governance, transparency, and integrity. “My vision is to build a better future for all members by promoting responsible leadership,” Ansah stated, emphasizing the importance of club welfare and collaboration within the association.

The election witnessed robust participation, with 134 members casting their votes, including representatives from the Premier League, Division One, Regional Football Associations (RFAs), and the Women’s Premier League. Koomson’s candidacy marked his third attempt at the chairmanship, having previously faced defeats in 2016 and 2020.

As Ansah steps into his new role, the focus will now shift to how he and his team will navigate the challenges ahead and implement their vision for the future of Ghanaian football.
