The newly appointed Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, has pledged his commitment to improving sanitation and waste management across the country.

Speaking at his maiden meeting with staff and stakeholders of the Ministry in Accra on Monday, Mr. Ibrahim outlined the government’s vision for the Ministry.

He highlighted the rationale behind merging the Ministries of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs into one entity. According to him, the merger aims to foster synergy, deepen decentralization, and enhance service delivery to citizens.

The Minister emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration among staff, urging them to work together to successfully achieve the Ministry’s goals. He also vowed to address absenteeism and ensure accountability and discipline across the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

“I will supervise the MMDAs with an eagle eye, ensuring that sanitation and waste management are prioritized to keep our cities and towns clean,” Mr. Ibrahim stated.

The Minister’s remarks set a clear agenda for his tenure, focusing on improved service delivery, discipline, and sustainable urban cleanliness.
