Activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has arrived in Parliament to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee to substantiate allegations that the committee has been demanding money from ministerial nominees in exchange for their approval.

The development follows claims made by the activist, which have been strongly refuted by the committee.

The Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Mr Bernard Ahiafor, directed the Clerk to the Committee to summon the lawyer and political activist, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, to appear before the Committee on Wednesday, to substantiate allegations of bribery against its members.

This follows a media statement by Mr Barker-Vormawor alleging that members of the committee, particularly the majority side, demand bribes from nominees before approving their appointments.

He also claimed that such practices delay the vetting process.

Addressing the matter, Mr Ahiafor described the allegations as false and damaging, stressing the need to protect the integrity of the committee.

But Barker-Vormawor expressed readiness to appear before Parliament’s Appointments Committee to substantiate his allegations that the committee demanded money from ministerial nominees in exchange for approval.
