Ghanaian politician, Bernard Monah has criticized the minority in Parliament for their decision not to vet nominees due to allegations of bribery against the Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor.

Bernard Ahiafor was accused by an activist and private legal practitioner, Oliver Barker Vormawor of demanding monies from nominees before vetting them to which Ahiafor immediately denied and submitted himself to the ORAL team for investigation.
Due to this, the minority in parliament stated that they will not vet any nominee today leading to Bernard Monah calling saying they were ‘more catholic than the Pope’.

Monah argued that the minority was overreacting, as Vormawor, who made the allegations specifically implicated the Chairman, Ahiafor and NDC members, not the minority side.

Monah questioned why the minority was taking the allegations personally and seeking to suspend the vetting process for Dr. Omane Boamah, the Minister-designate for Defence when people left their duties to be there for the vetting. He emphasized that the minority should have addressed their concerns before inviting the nominee to Parliament and making him take his oath if they knew they would not vet him.

Interestingly, Monah asked if the minority members are NDC members, meanwhile, Ahiafor has denied the allegations of bribery and has summoned Vormawor to parliament tomorrow to provide evidence to his allegation to which he has accepted to show up.
