The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is vowing to learn from the disappointing performance of the Black Stars, who failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. In the wake of this setback, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has expressed optimism about the future of Ghanaian football, despite the immense pressure on the association and calls for accountability regarding the team’s management.

The Black Stars finished at the bottom of Group F with just three points, suffering three defeats and three draws throughout the qualifiers. This marks a significant low for the four-time African champions, as it is the first time in two decades that they will miss out on the continent’s premier football event. The failure has sparked a wave of criticism directed at head coach Otto Addo, with many fans demanding his dismissal for a lack of victories during the qualifying campaign.

In an interview with Sporty FM, Asante Twum acknowledged the disappointment but emphasized the importance of learning from their mistakes. “We have to pick useful lessons from our failure to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament,” he stated. He assured fans that the GFA is committed to using this experience as a stepping stone for improvement in future competitions.

Looking ahead, Asante Twum highlighted the need to redirect focus towards the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers. He expressed hope that the insights gained from this experience would pave the way for a more competitive team capable of achieving success on the world stage. “We can only build on this disappointment and go into the next phase of our qualifiers,” he added confidently.
