The heated clash between the Majority and Minority in Parliament erupted during the vetting of Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, leading to accusations of bias against the Clerk of the Appointments Committee.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin accused the Clerk, Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, of siding with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). Speaking to journalists, he claimed the Clerk acted in favour of the NDC by scheduling the vetting without prior agreement.

“The Clerk to the Committee is a partisan clerk. She supports the NDC and advertises their events. On January 29, she announced the vetting at 10 PM without any meeting or agreement,” Afenyo-Markin alleged.

The tension began when the Minority requested to reschedule the vetting to Friday, arguing that the process was not properly planned. However, the Majority refused, insisting that the session continue as scheduled.

The disagreement escalated into chaos, with Minority members disrupting proceedings by breaking tables and microphones. Despite the disorder, the Majority insisted on continuing the vetting.

Eventually, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga intervened and announced that the vetting would be suspended and rescheduled for Friday, January 31.
