The Minority Leader, in Ghana’s Parliament, and Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency in the Central region, Mr. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, says he and his charges will not allow the National Democratic Congress Majority Caucus to impose its will on the approval process of President John Dramani Mahama’s ministerial nominees.
He warned that his side will not resort to boycotting the proceedings as they used to do sometime past, even when their party was in government but will rather remain active and vocal throughout the process to ensure that the right procedures are followed to the latter in the approval of ministerial nominees.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, January 31, 2025, Mr. Afenyo-Markin reiterated that his caucus remains resolute in ensuring a fair and transparent vetting process.
“The NDC must know that they won an election and that election they won, they are to govern with us and we will not allow them to use their so-called Majority to force their way, it will not happen. We will not boycott any proceedings because it is not part of us,” He cautioned.
He further explained that the Minority is fully aware of the intricacies of governance, having previously been in power, and therefore understands the necessity of ensuring a balanced and accountable government.
He said while the Minority will not obstruct government business, they will also not be a rubber stamp for the Majority’s decisions.
“We will stay in and protest and they will not have their way. But we want to assure them that because we have been in government before and we know governance, we will not obstruct government business,” he reiterated.
