President John Mahama has nominated Dr Johnson Asiamah as the new Governor of the Bank of Ghana, pending approval by the Council of State.

The nomination comes after the current Governor, Dr Ernest Addison, requested to proceed on leave ahead of his retirement on 31 March 2025.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President.

Dr Asiamah, who previously served as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2016 to 2017, holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton, UK. He has extensive experience in monetary policy, financial stability regulation, and economic research.

Having worked at the central bank for over 23 years, Dr Asiama is expected to bring a wealth of expertise to the role. His track record includes implementing sound monetary policies, stabilising exchange rates, and promoting economic growth in Ghana.
