During the vetting session for Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Minister of State for Government Communications, on January 31,2025, he addressed key concerns regarding the restructuring of government communication in Ghana. Kwakye Ofosu emphasized that while his role as Minister of State and the previous Minister of Information may seem similar in function, there are significant differences in structure and efficiency. He stated, “In terms of function and output, the two are one and the same,” but clarified that the current approach is designed to be “more cost-efficient and does not burden the taxpayer”.
Kwakye Ofosu also reassured staff from the former Ministry of Information about their job security amid restructuring. He responded to concerns by stating, “I wish to use this opportunity to assure all of them and the people of Ghana that no such thing will happen,” referring to potential layoffs. He acknowledged that while political appointees might face changes, civil servants would largely remain employed as the government seeks to streamline operations.
He highlighted his dual responsibilities as both spokesperson for the President and manager of government communications, asserting that this new arrangement aims to enhance the effectiveness of information dissemination. “The President has spoken to me… he wants me to manage the entire government communication machinery,” he noted, underlining his commitment to improving communication strategies within the government.
This restructuring reflects a broader vision articulated by the President , who believes that a leaner communication team can achieve more without the extensive bureaucratic overhead previously associated with the Ministry of Information.
