Ghanaians Express Confidence in the Country’s Direction and Presidential Appointments
The first national opinion poll by Global InfoAnalytics since the December 2024 elections reveals a significant shift in public sentiment, with a majority of Ghanaians expressing optimism about the country’s direction and President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership.
National Direction:
70% of Ghanaians believe the country is on the right path, a sharp increase from 22% recorded a year ago. Only 16% feel the country is headed in the wrong direction, compared to 68% last year.
Presidential Approval:
Mahama enjoys an 84% approval rating since assuming office.
Standard of Living: 32% of Ghanaians say their standard of living has improved, while 50% report no change, and 8% say it has worsened. Notably, 78% are optimistic about an improvement in the next 12 months, up from 32% in January 2024.
Presidential Appointments:
90% of voters are satisfied with Mahama’s appointees, with 68% expressing strong satisfaction.
Parliamentary Appointments Committee and Vetting Process
Appointments Committee Performance: 63% of those following the committee’s work are satisfied, though 37% remain dissatisfied.
Chairman’s Performance: Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, Esq., receives a 56% approval rating, while 44% are dissatisfied, including 19% who are completely unsatisfied.
Minority Leader’s Performance:
Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin faces low approval, with 64% of respondents dissatisfied, including 44% who are entirely unsatisfied. Only 8% are extremely satisfied.
Vetting Concerns:
77% of respondents believe the vetting process is being used to score political points rather than assess nominees’ competence, while 17% disagree.
Speaker’s Decision on Suspensions:
79% support the Speaker’s suspension of four MPs, while 12% oppose it and 9% remain neutral.
These findings indicate a strong endorsement of President Mahama’s governance, a positive outlook for the country’s future, and ongoing scrutiny of parliamentary proceedings.
