The Member of Parliament for Effutu and Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) team, led by Foreign Affairs Minister-Designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, of flying drones over his private properties.
Speaking on JoyNews’ The Probe on Sunday, February 2, 2025, Mr. Afenyo-Markin claimed that he was informed by his associates about the drone surveillance but chose to remain silent. He insisted that he has nothing to hide and that all his assets were legally acquired.
His accusation comes after Mr. Ablakwa, who is also the Minority Leader, revealed details about Mr. Afenyo-Markin’s properties during his vetting on Friday, January 31, 2025.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin recounted that before the vetting, he had a conversation with Mr. Ablakwa, advising him to be careful about his statements. However, he alleged that the ORAL team still continued its surveillance.
“I was aware that these ORAL guys were flying drones in Winneba over my property. I kept quiet. They went to my beachfront property and flew a drone there. My boy saw it, but I told them to ignore it,” he said.
He further claimed that the surveillance was not limited to Winneba but also targeted his residence in Abelenkpe and other locations.
“In Abelenkpe, you wake up in the morning and see drones flying. Policemen have seen it and informed me, but I told them to ignore it. Sometimes, early in the morning, we see drones behind the rail line, clearly spying on my house,” he added.
The Majority Leader also denied allegations that his lands in Winneba belong to the state, describing the claim as false.
“The gentleman brought a search report and created the impression that my lands in Winneba are state lands. With the greatest respect, they are not,” he stated.
