The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, has revealed that security agencies conduct thorough investigations into ministerial nominees before they are vetted by Parliament.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Mr. Ahiafor explained that any nominee found guilty of crimes related to dishonesty or moral wrongdoing is automatically disqualified from holding office. He added that similar background checks are done for parliamentary candidates.
“If a nominee has been involved in fraud or any offence related to dishonesty, they are disqualified from becoming an MP. And if they cannot be an MP, they also cannot be a minister,” he stated.
He further explained that security agencies carry out these investigations before nominees appear for vetting, ensuring that only individuals with integrity serve in government.
