Two of the over forty (40) ministerial nominees appointed by President John Dramani Mahama, whose parliamentary vetting generated many controversies, Samuel Nartey George, Minister-designate for Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovations, and Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, have been approved as Ministers for their respective ministries by majority consens

The Minority in Parliament Mr. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin led his charges to abstain from the approval process on the plenary on Tuesday night February 4, 2025.

Initially, the Minority led by its leader had planned to demand a secret ballot, citing concerns over George’s social media posts against the Chief Justice and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, and his conduct during his vetting.

The Minority also kicked against Mr. Ablakwa’s nomination citing his inability to furnish the Appointments Committee with documents covering his rental agreement and his involvement with the activities by the Operation-Recover-All-Loot (ORAL).

Minority Leader Mr. Afenyo-Markin explained that the decision to abstain was influenced by calls for restraint, leading them to step back to avoid further controversy.
