The Minority in Parliament has refused to support the approval of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as Minister for Foreign Affairs. They say they are not happy with how he answered questions during his vetting.

During a parliamentary session on Tuesday, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin made it clear that his group could not accept Ablakwa’s appointment.

To show their disapproval, First Minority Deputy Whip Habib Iddrisu poured water on Afenyo-Markin’s hands, which he washed. This act symbolized that the Minority was not part of the decision.

The Minority had earlier refused to vote on the approval of Samuel Nartey George as well.

Speaking on the issue, Afenyo-Markin said, “We will not take part in this decision. It is up to the Majority. Any mistakes made by Ablakwa will be their responsibility.”

He added that the Minority was completely distancing itself from Ablakwa’s approval. However, he noted that if Ablakwa changed his ways and returned to Parliament, they would welcome him.
