The Majority leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga has commented on the recent vetting of the Greater Accra Regional Minister-designate, Linda Obenewaa Ocloo Akweley, stating that most people are effective leaders who excel behind the scenes, but struggle with communication when being put in the spotlight.
In an interview on February 5, 2025, on the GTV breakfast show with Kafui Dey, Mahama Ayariga stated that some members of parliament are great leaders and can get the job done but find it hard to even communicate or argue in Parliament.
He also pointed out that some individuals are intimidated by the camera, and therefore approach them in a more gentle manner, avoiding tough questioning.
“They communicate in a meeting, board meeting, and discussion with their staff and management, they communicate effectively but just put cameras before them, the story and dynamic changes. There are so many people who fear the cameras, people like that will come to plead with you not to subject them with a lot of grilling not because they are hiding something”, he stated.
Unlike him, who has undergone communication training and held esteemed positions like Presidential Spokesperson and Information Minister, others lack equivalent training.
Furthermore, he noted that the nomination period was extremely short, leaving nominees insufficient time to prepare.
